interpol + spoon @ bold point park 8/28/22

first song: Roland

current favorite(s): C'mere, Evil, All The Rage Back Home, and most importantly: REST MY CHEMISTRY. i could write a fucking essay on that one.

you've got no fear for the underdog...that's why you will not survive. so true, Spoon. but first, let's talk opener.

actually, let's talk about Bold Point Park and the island of misfit toys that gathered there. i was actually surprised to see a shit ton of small children there, but then a quick google search let me know that Interpol is actually older than i am and it totally makes sense why the crowd was a bunch of young, cooler looking parents. also a lot of people in their 40's and 50's. i felt a little awkward standing in the field in front of the stage by myself, but it was fine. it's easy to blend in with a few thousand people.

Water From Your Eyes (cool name, huh?) opened the show. i missed most of their set because i was trying to buy some Interpol merch, but they ended their set by playing a kazoo right into the microphone... which is something i never really thought i'd ever see. but i'm glad that i did. i'm pretty sure a different band was supposed to open, but i'm glad it was this one. they set a good tone for the evening.

...is it bad that i thought Interpol was supposed to go on next? i really had no idea how popular those guys are. anyways. Spoon... you guys know how to perform. i'm sorry that i showed up only knowing one song. thankfully, the rest of the crowd sang along to everything. the lights were nuts, especially since each track was a certified banger. i apologize if it's common knowledge, but there is nothing mellow about Spoon. they like to have fun. they are rockstars. and no, not the mopey kind. man was everyone having a good time. Spoon has a really good stage presence and Britt Daniel (lead singer) has the voice of a major rock angel. i think i have a crush on him. but i also just want to be his friend. this is one of those bands that seeing them live changed my whole perspective. Spoon demands our attention, so let's give it to them.

Interpol...the dreamiest headliner i've ever experienced. seriously. a completely different vibe than Spoon. not in a bad way. i am a die hard Interpol girl. Rest My Chemistry saved my life, blah blah blah. (it did). but it felt kind of weird to go from 70 minutes of happy, upbeat tracks to the serene vibe of Interpol. (which is ironic since all of their lyrics are like...the farthest thing from serene). i felt like i was floating in a warm pool listening to them. and i was completely sober, so that should speak volumes about the vibe they give off. i wish they opened with Evil. (no, i wish they just played C'mere on repeat, actually). the speakers at Bold Point Park seemed to be turned up to full volume, but i swear, Interpol could've sang me to sleep. some asshole called "boring". can you believe it? you're not boring, Interpol. you provide your audience with an overwhelming sense of peace and comfort. and for that, we are forever grateful. here is a picture of Paul Banks, Interpol's extremely talented lead singer. i want this man to read me a bedtime story.

no, but really. hearing Rest My Chemistry live was otherworldly. it would be devastating if they closed with it. it's just such an intensely morose song. and yeah, i did cry. i cried like a fucking baby. i'm so glad they recently released an album and are touring again. i wish i found these guys sooner. i hope people continue to. love you forever and ever.
